“2020 평화통일 글짓기대회”
– 중·고등부 우수상 수상작 –
민주평화통일자문회의 유럽·중동·아프리카지역회의(부의장 박종범)가 주최한 ‘2020 평화통일 글짓기대회’수상자가 발표되었습니다. 이번 대회는 유럽·중동·아프리카·러시아·중앙아시아·블라디보스톡 지역 재외동포 청소년을 대상으로 올바른 국가관, 통일관, 역사관 함양 및 건강한 통일 미래세대를 육성하고자 2020년 11월 30일 ~ 12월 6일까지 열렸습니다. 중·고등부 부문은 30개국, 58개 한글학교 학생 177명이 참가하였고, 글짓기 주제는 ⧫꿈이 이루어지는 통일 한국 ⧫왜 통일이 되어야 하나요? ⧫우리에게 평화의 한반도란? 이었습니다. 심사는 민주평통 유럽·중동·아프리카지역회의가 국립공주대학교 한민족교육문화원에 의뢰해서 진행하였고, 심사위원의 교차심사를 거쳐 최종 수상자 16명이 선정되었습니다. 이에 두바이 한글학교 손유진 학생이 우수상을 수상하였고, ‘꿈이 이루어지는 통일 한국’을 위즈덤 아고라에 게재합니다.

[꿈이 이루어지는 통일 한국]
북한에 사는 친구에게,
안녕? 나는 두바이에 사는 14살, 손유진이야. 여기는 12월인데도 날씨가 따뜻해. 거기는 많이 춥지? 네가 사는 나라와 대한민국은 1953년 휴전 협정이 체결되면서 군사 분계선이 생기고, 대치 중이야. 하지만 2007년에 태어난 나는 사실 분단의 빈자리를 크게 느끼지 못했어.
그러다가 부모님을 따라 두바이에 살게 되면서, 어느 나라 사람이냐는 질문을 받을 때마다 내가 ‘Korean’이라고 하면 ‘South or North’라고 물어보는 거야. 나는 한국에서보다 한반도가 분단되어 있고, 외국인의 시선에서는 같은 민족끼리 대치 중이라고 생각한다는 것을 느꼈어. 솔직히, 난 한 번도 북한과 우리나라가 같은 나라라고 생각해 본적이 없었거든. 한 번은 아부다비에 있는 북한 식당인 옥류관에 갔는데, 직원들의 말투가 달라서 그런지 처음에는 어색하고 조금 무서웠어. 하지만 맛있는 평양냉면을 먹고 공연을 보며 막연한 두려움은 싹 사라졌어. 이러한 일들을 겪으며 나는 한반도가 분단되어 있는 게 너무 가슴 아팠고, 통일이 되면 얼마나 좋을지 생각하게 되었어.
2018년 판문점 선언 이후, 평양냉면이 방송에 소개되면서 한국에서 큰 인기를 얻었던 것 알아? 물론, 평양냉면은 다른 식당에서도 먹을 수 있지만, 나는 꼭 평양냉면의 원조인 평양에 가서 먹어보고 싶어. 통일이 되면 인구가 증가해 국력이 증가하고, 북한의 자원과 남한의 기술력으로 최고의 상품을 만들어서 경제가 발전할 거라는 것도 알지만, 어른들의 이런 말씀들보다는 화면에 나온 냉면과 구름 한 점 없는 백두산 천지의 모습이 내 가슴을 뛰게 했어.
통일이 되면 더 많은 곳에 갈 수 있겠지? 두바이에 살면서 높은 건물들과 사막을 보다 보니, 산과 나무가 너무 그리워졌어. ‘금강산도 식후경’이라는 말을 자주 사용하는데, 정작 나는 금강산에 갈 수가 없잖아. 그 말을 하면서 금강산이 얼마나 아름답길래 수많은 산들 중에서 선택됐을지 항상 궁금했어. 사진으로는 많이 봤지만, 내 두 눈으로 보는 것과는 확실히 다르잖아! 내 버킷리스트는 대학생이 되면 전국 일주를 하는 것이야. 통일이 되어 백두산부터 한라산까지, 진정한 전국 일주를 하면 굉장히 즐겁겠다. 또 다른 버킷리스트는 유럽 배낭 여행을 가는 것이야. 보통 한국에서 유럽 배낭여행을 가려면 비행기를 타고 가야 했지만, 통일이 되어 한반도에서 기차를 타고, 잠시 내려 냉면을 먹은 후, 평양 시내 구경을 하고 유럽까지 잇는 열차로 배낭여행을 떠나면 얼마나 신날까!
통일이 되면, 천혜의 자연 구역, DMZ는 세계에서 몇 되지 않는 평화의 공간과 여러 동식물들의 보금자리가 될 거야. 그러면 한반도는 세계적인 관광지가 되겠다. 이런 상상을 하는 것만으로도 나는 매우 기뻐. 나는 무엇보다, 우리가 둘도 없는 친구가 되어 웃고 떠들기를 기다리고 있어. 만나서 서로를 소개하는 시간도 가지자. 그럼 우리가 어떻게 비슷하고 다른지 배울 수 있을 거야. 예를 들어, 문화어와 우리말의 차이를 직접 느껴보는 것도 재밌겠다. 나는 북한 학교의 모습도 너무 궁금해. 네가 만약 한국에 온다면, 소개해 주고 싶은 장소가 많아. 일단, 경복궁같이 역사적인 장소의 아름다움과 그 가치를 보여주고 싶어. 그다음에는 롯데월드타워처럼 현대적인 장소도 구경시켜주고 싶어. 전망대에 올라가서 서울의 야경을 같이 보는 날이 머지않아 왔으면 좋겠다. 내가 앞서 말한 것들을 우리가 같이 할 수 있는 날이 곧 올 거라고 나는 믿어. 하루빨리 통일이 돼서 나의 꿈들이 이루어지면 좋겠다. 너도 통일이 되면 하고 싶은 일들이나, 통일이 돼서 이루고 싶은 꿈들이 있니? 답장 기다리고 있을게!

[Reunification of Korea, a dream come true]

To my friend in North Korea,
Hello! I am Yujin Son from Dubai and I’m fourteen years old. Here, despite it being December, the weather is quite warm. Is it much colder where you are? The military demarcation line between your country and South Korea was drawn in 1953, after the Korean Armistice Agreement was signed. But in all honesty, as someone was born in 2007, I couldn’t really feel the impact of the division between us.
As I started living in Dubai with my parents, people would ask me where I was from. My response was always “Korea” and people would ask if I was from “ the South or North”. That made me realise that from the perspective of foreigners, Korea appears to be more divided than it really is. I have never thought that North Korea and South Korea were the same country. Once, I went to a North Korean restaurant in Abu Dhabi, called Okryu-gwan, and initially I felt out of place and a little scared because the staff spoke differently to how I spoke. However, after eating delicious Pyongyang noodles and watching their performance, this fear disappeared. Through what I experienced, I was devastated that our Korea was divided, and I became wistful for the unification of our countries.
Did you know that after the Panmunjom declaration in 2018, Pyongyang noodles gained a lot of popularity in Korea? Of course, I can eat Pyongyang noodles at other restaurants, but I would definitely like to try the original Pyongyang noodles someday Many adults have told me that through Korean unification, the population and the national power will increase, and there will be economic growth as we can make the best products with North Korean resources and South Korean technology – but personally, Pyongyang noodles and the image of the clear skies of Baekdu mountain was enough to my heart beat.
If our counties become unified, won’t we be able to visit many more places? Living in Dubai, seeing skyscrapers and deserts on a daily basis, I miss the mountains and trees so much. I often use the proverb “Mountain Geumgang after eating” but I can’t even visit Mountain Geumgang. (In Korea, there is a proverb that says, ‘Mountain Geumgang after eating.’ It is similar to the Western proverb, ‘Bread is better than the songs of birds.’) Whenever I do use that phrase, I always wonder how beautiful Mt. Geumgang must be. I see a lot in pictures, of course, but it must surely be different from seeing it with my own eyes! On my bucket list, one of my goals is to travel around the whole country when I go into university. I like to imagine traveling all around the country from Mount Paektu to Hallasan after Korea’s unification. Another goal on my bucket list is to go backpacking in Europe. Typically, I would have to take a plane to do this, but after Korea’s unification I can simply take a train to go and see Pyongyang city, and then go on a backpacking trip back on a train which connects to Europe.
After Korea’s unification, the DMZ will become a place of peace and a home for many organisms. Then the entire Korean peninsula could become a bustling tourist hub! Just by imagining what could happen makes me incredibly happy. But over anything, I am anticipating the moment we can meet and become friends. I hope we can have some time to share our own unique experiences too. Then we will be able to appreciate how we are alike in some ways and different in other ways. For example, I expect there will be some differences between our culture or the way we speak. I am also curious about what North Korean schools are like. If you come to Korea, I would like to take you to many destinations. First, I would take you to Gyeongbok Palace, where you will see the beauty and significance of a historical place. Afterwards, I would like to show you modern places such as Lotte World Tower. We can go to the very top, to the observatory, and see Seoul’s beautiful night view. One day, we will be able to do all of this. I firmly believe that day is not too far away. I hope that the unification of our countries will come as soon as possible and my dreams will come true.
