[해외특파원 1기 / 김정욱 기자] First, the Philippines is relatively cheap in price. Although the Philippines experienced an increased price of goods and services, it still remains as one of the cheapest places to live. Filipino as well as international dishes are sold at a price that is far more cheaper than in Korea. For example, a cup of iced americano is around 130 pesos (2700 won) which is 70 per cent cheaper than in Korea. Burger King’s whopper set as well costs about 4000 won in the Philippines in comparison to 7500 won in Korea.
The Philippines’ clear sky attracts many people to visit the country. Although people may think of Canada or Germany having only the perfect weather, this is a misconception. The Philippines boasts of rich natural beauty in its many places. The Philippines has one of top biodiversity hotspots in the world. Not only that, the weather allows the Philippines to be one of the top three best diving, surfing, water skiing, and skin scuba diving destinations in the world. To name a few, the best dive sites in the Philippines are located in Anilao, Boracay and Palawan.
Lastly, the majority of the population in the Philippines speaks English fluently. Filipinos were first introduced to English when the British invaded Manila in 1762. As a result of British and American colonization, the English language was spoken by a large segment of the Philippine population. English eventually became the dominant language; 9 out of 10 in the Philippines can speak English fluently and well. As a result, in 1987, both Filipino and English were declared co-official languages.
