[해외특파원 1기 / 박소민 기자] On the 1st of September, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Overseas Culture Promotion Agency re-organized its website to celebrate the 5th anniversary of FactsKorea.

FactsKorea was first launched on September 1st, 2016 to clarify misleading information about Korea and enhance the status of the country. The site systematically receives reviews and corrects inaccurate information about Korea disseminated by foreign media sources. Such news may include erroneous facts and distortions that negatively affect the international image of the country.

The FactsKorea homepage was redesigned in 2018 to celebrate the site’s 2nd anniversary. The renovation focused on improving the user experience by making it more intuitive and convenient, making it easier to find evidence for errors and thereby addressing the frequent complaint that “it is a bit complicated to find errors about Korea.”

The top menu bar was also refurbished to include selections such as “What is FactsKorea,” “Reporting Inaccurate Information,” “Team of FactsKorea” to facilitate better adjustment to the site for first-time users. In addition, it expanded its function as a space for communication by rearranging SNS icons that were previously difficult to identify. In this update, the menu titles were intuitively renamed, a more readable design was adopted, and technological improvements like the addition of shortcuts were applied.

Anyone who finds misleading information about Korea on foreign media sites can report directly to FactsKorea at ‘www.factsaboutkorea.go.kr.’ and must follow the procedures specified on the homepage. The report is completed after consent and authentication, the indication of the specific error, and detailing the specifics of the claim.

FactsKorea requires the active participation of people to identify false information about Korea and engage in social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube to continue promoting Korea in the most positive light possible.
